  2.  The online Trek Encyclopedia Memory Alpha says the following about the USS Republic vessel where Kirk served as an Ensign, "By the early 24th century the USS Republic was assigned as a training ship for Starfleet Academy cadets. Although it continued to serve the fleet through as late as 2374. it had not left the Sol System since the 2320s (DS9 "Valiant')  that's how Legendary Starfleet vessels were in Kirk's era, and at the end of 

  "Star Trek: Generations" the Nebula class USS Farragut is one of 3 Starfleet vessels that rescue the survivors of the Enterprise D, Kirk also served aboard a vessel named Farragut early in his Starfleet career ,
