1. Jimmy Bennett who played young Kirk driving the car early in the 2009 "Star Trek" film,  this scene and other aspects of the 2009 film were based on the 1992 Diane Carey Star Trek Novel "Best Destiny" which calls itself "The Long-Awaited Story of a Young James T. Kirk's First Adventure in Space"  2.  The online Trek Encyclopedia Memory Alpha says the following about the USS Republic vessel where Kirk served as an Ensign, "By the early 24th century the USS Republic was assigned as a training ship for Starfleet Academy cadets. Although it continued to serve the fleet through as late as 2374. it had not left the Sol System since the 2320s (DS9 "Valiant')  that's how Legendary Starfleet vessels were in Kirk's era, and at the end of  "Star Trek: Generations" the Nebula class USS Farragut is one of 3 Starfleet vessels that rescue the survivors of the Enterprise D, Kirk also served aboard a vessel named Farragut early in his
The Wikipedia entry for James T. Kirk  tells more about how Legendary Kirk is.. it says Kirk "earned a Field commission as an ensign and posted to advanced training aboard the USS Republic, that Kirk graduated in the top five percent from Starfleet Academy, Terry J. Erdman & Paula M. Block in the Star Trek 101 primer say Kirk is "cunning, courageous and confident, Kirk also has a tendency to ignore Starfleet regulations when he feels the end justifies the means" and that Kirk is "The quintessential officer, a man among men and a hero for the ages" Shatner wanted to fill Kirk with "awe and wonder" absent from the "The Cage" pilot episode , Shatner took inspiration from the ancient Greek ruler  Alexander the Great "the athlete and intellectual of his time" when playing Kirk, and Shatner based Kirk partly on himself, A comedy veteran, Shatner suggested making the shows characters as comfortable working in space as they would be

  1. In this Newseek.com article in June 2018 titled    ‘Star Trek’ novels reveal Picard’s possible future in new series   , it tells about    Borg Invasion of 2381 Picard had a handful of post-  Nemesis  confrontations with the Borg, but nothing like the massive invasion of 2381, which wiped out 40 percent of Starfleet and killed tens of billions. Picard’s long history with the Borg (he was once assimilated) leads him to some dark places, including commanding the deployment of the same genocidal thalaron radiation weapon wielded by the Romulans in  Nemesis (Geordi La Forge refuses the order). " This is shown in the "Star Trek: Destiny " Novel , Book II Mere Mortals,  while this may not be a fully "Canon" The Federation would Not be having these problems if Kirk was around in 2381 -

Wedding Crashers

Kirk & Spock as played by Shatner & Nimoy but also Chris Pine & Zachary Quinto are a cool team like the "Wedding Crashers" from the 2005 Comedy film "Wedding Crashers" about two Washington D.C divorce mediators John Beckwith(Owen Wilson) & Jeremy Grey(Vince Vaughn) who "crash" wedding parties to meet and bed women, you could never compare Picard & Riker to the Wedding Crashers, Kirk would fully agree with the tagline for the film "Life's a Party, Crash it"  Kirk is also cool like  Jack Tripper from "Three's Company" Jack Tripper was played by the late John Ritter, see this Link,  Wedding Crashers

For the Friendship between Kirk & Spock in the Kelvin Timeline Films, the Memory Alpha  Star Trek website notes that  The  influence on which screenwriters  Roberto Orci  and  Alex Kurtzman  based Kirk and Spock's relationship was the friendship between  Paul McCartney  and  John Lennon , two very different musicians who bonded early in life, partly because they both suffered through the loss of a parent (in Kirk's case, his father, and in Spock's, his mother)
