The  influence on which screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman based Kirk and Spock's relationship was the friendship between Paul McCartney and John Lennon, two very different musicians who bonded early in life, partly because they both suffered through the loss of a parent (in Kirk's case, his father, and in Spock's, his mother)

  On the Wikipedia entry for the Star Trek franchise, it says that Gene Roddenberry when creating Star Trek: The Original series, was inspired by the satirical book Gulliver's Travels, published in 1726 by Irish writer & clergyman Jonathan Swift , the entry also says "The central trio of Kirk,Spock and McCoy from Star Trek: The Original Series was modeled on Classical mythological storytelling" referring to Classical Greco-Roman mythology, Greek & Roman mythology, the entry is here,  Star Trek
